Bumping and You:

So recently I spent an hour or two in Uedama watching some ganks go down out of pure boredom and I thought I might make a post about some common methods and the morons that get caught by them.

KILLMAIL

This particular event consisted of the following ships and factions

Freighter Owner:

- Bowhead x1
- Dramiel x3

CODE and Affiliates:
- Machariel x3
- Catalyst x35

If you haven't guessed it already, yes this was a suicide gank. I'm making this post to explain just exactly how it happened. I will use numbering to show the chain of events as it's much easier then making a huge wall of text.

The Bowhead in question and 3 Machariels

Lets begin.

1) Bowhead pilot flies into Uedama, not on autopilot (strange, most pilots don't think of doing this).

2) Bowhead pilot then makes it out of Uedama and lands in Sivala, however the fun isn't over just yet for CODE.

3) CODE Machariel jumps into Sivala the same time the Bowhead does and manages to bump it successfully.

4) Bumping the huge ship prevents it from entering warp and gives CODE and friends the time to amass a large number of suicide catalysts.

5) The deed is done and the Bowhead is no more.

So how to prevent this from happening you ask? Considering the Bowhead was fit for optimal warp time (mostly) AND had 2 or 3 people webbing rules out the possibility of a shit fit for the situation. You could argue that a tank might have been helpful, I'd agree with that, but CODE has made it known that event the toughest tanks are nothing. What good is a 200k EHP tank when they can crush triple bulked freighters withease?

So if these two options aren't cutting it, what do you do then? Well my opinion is simple, either take the risk that’s inevitable when going down the Jita – Dodixie/Rens/Amarr/Hek/justaboutanywhereelse pipe OR just don't be dumb/brave and don't do it. Contact a freighter corp to do it for you, even if it's just between the couple of so called “pirate systems”.

I suggest www.minerbumping.com if you are looking for a good read and contact PUSH-X if you want someone to move your stuff without the risk.

Thanks for reading and I'll be back to writing these with hopeful regularity:)

Why You Shouldn't Visit Uedama. (or should)

EVE is often known for its uncertainty and for it's un-safe nature. However, there is one system in EVE that is more often then not, very much the same.

Uedama.

The only hi-sec system linking the trade hub Jita to the smaller (but still significant) hubs of Dodixie and Amarr. This is actually not true, but the other option has many, many more jumps involved and is generally not used.

However, don't be fooled by it's hi-sec nature, Uedama is in fact one of the most dangerous systems out there, rivavlling null-sec even; depending on what ship you pilot. Frigates and other combat ships more often then not make it through just fine, it's the other class that doesn't: industrials and freighters.

A common sight in the system of Uedama.

The system is constantly patrolled by suicide gankers and bumpers, most of whom are members of CODE. These pilots don't give a shit if they lose their Thrasher or Catalyst trying to take you down, they are disposable items, almost like a weapon if you will. They go in KNOWING the'll lose it so they can sweep down 2 minutes later and loot your precious PLEX or what ever ludicrous thing you had stored up in your slow, vulnerable industrial.

Don't be this guy.

So whats the point of this article? I guess it would be me saying that you really shouldn't go into Uedama with valuable cargo and expect to leave in one piece. Instead I'd recommend you use a courier service such as PushX to ferry your goods for a fee. I've used them to ship things from modules to battleships and it's always been a pleasant experience. It may cost you a fair bit depending on what you're shipping, but in the long term or short term the gains are worth it.

Why Do Players Still Do This?

Check the clocks, calendars or whatever you use to tell time. Either way it's 2015.

It's 2015 and people are still pulling shit like this in EVE, even if it WAS in hi-sec.
What the fuck.
Yes that's right. That's a T2 exhumer fitted with a CIVILIAN shield booster. TWO OF THEM. God dammit. Let's a take a look at just how effective these boosters would be at saving this poor Mackinaw.

How terrible.

7 HP per cycle. Each cycle is 3s. That's 2.3 HP per second, not taking into account of any skills or implants. But even with ideal conditions it's still going to fucking suck.

Now lets take a look at the next logical increment, the Small Shield Booster I.

26 HP every TWO seconds. That's 13/sec without skills. That's a massive increase from the 2.3 we saw earlier.

Considering the Mackinaw is going for ~193M right now, why don't people like this person see fit to use something better then a pair of Civillian Shield Boosters to protect their investment?

Maybe they just don't know, doubt it considering the training time for a Mackinaw.

Maybe they just don't care. Likely.

Back and Working Better Then Ever

Welp. I'm back to EVE.

Well I never really left, no one really ever "quits" EVE. I just got busy and couldn't keep up with the nullsec nonsense of late and had to drop corp.

Now that I'm here, in hi-sec, by myself, I'm going to start this again. Mostly covering EVE news and game info. Couple guides here and there and the odd opinion I have to post.

That's about all I"m going to write today, got to sort some other things out with this site, catch you guys later!

New Industrials

EVE Online Odyssey 1.1 is here!

Now what did it bring you ask? Well it brought small UI changes, changes in drone command among other things. However there was rather large change regarding T1 industrials. This is the topic for today.

Now originally the T1 industrials were rather bland, with the only real difference being the cargo capacity of each one. This was especially prevalent with the Gallente industrials. However with the changes in Odyssey 1.1 this is no longer the case as they have received major overhauls. They now mainly revolve around specialization in cargo holds.

I'll start with The Epithal, originally one of the 5 Iterons. Now most people only used the MK V as the rest were inferior. But with the changes made in Odyssey 1.1 the Epithal now specializes in carrying planetary Commodities. It may have a low cargo bay, but the special bay is VERY large compared to the previous version. This is a very good ship for people interested or that take part in Planetary Interaction, which I am going to talk about next week.

Next up is the Kryos, a mineral ship. As before with the Epithal, this ship has a small cargo hold but a very large mineral hold: 43,000 m3. This is larger than any previous industrial, even with rigs and modules AND skills.

Then there’s the Miasmos, miners delight. A spacious ore hold of 42,000 m3 stock is very inciting to anyone wanting to ship ore from place to place. Add on skill bonuses and you have a very potent profit maker, as with any of these new ships. I think this ship would be invaluable to any miner wishing to sell ore in different systems with higher buy prices.

The Nereus is neat in the fact it has a drone bay. It's also got very good defense stats for a T1. This ship is a good ship for someone wishing a bit more protection. However of the all new Gallente ships this one seems a bit fruitless. First off the drones won't defend against a ganker and you are very unlikely to encounter any rats while hauling. Secondly, not matter how hard you tank it it's still an easy target for a suicide ganker. Still good if a bit flawed.

The final Gallente ship and the only one that avoided a name change is the famous Iteron MK V. This ship is largely unchanged from before and still remains a good bulk cargo hauler.

Next up is the Minmatar ships.

The Hoarder is the only one to receive a significant change. It gains a specialized ammo bay. This would be very helpful, even if ammo is a fairly low volume commodity.

   Lastly is the Caldari industrials.

The Badger is largely unchanged, however the Badger MK II is now the Tayra and gains an impressive 7,300 m3 bulk cargo hold. With skills, rigs and modules this has the potential to be a potent and useful bulk hauler.

So that’s it, some very big changes. I'm eager to see some interesting fittings come out of this, and I’m sure they will.

I've not included Amaar ships as they are unchanged for the most part.

You can view the rest here:  T1 Industrials.

Incursions In EVE With T1 Destroyers

Well I've got a slightly interesting and informative post for today.

It began when I was simply mining in my Venture in Mitsolen a 0.6 system. I was aware there was an incursion in a system adjacent to me at the time. However what I failed to realise is that as soon as I had entered warp to a prospective asteroid belt the incursion had entered the system. I was greeted with a friendly 1 hit end to my Venture.

Goodbye my old friend.
I then shared this startling kill with my fellow corporation members, one of which decided we should go kill them. We quickly decided to use 3 T1 Cormorant destroyers to dispatch this seemingly easy enemy. However I was skeptical. How could 3 T1 destroyers survive firepower of that magnitude? Still I went with the plan.

As we gathered our very deadly force of 3 Cormorants (sarcasm), I began to conclude this was to be a suicidal mission. How could we possibly match our enemies superior DPS?

Our enemy.
As our 3 destroyers warped into the belt we were faced with an immediate problem: they were gone. This gave us some false confidence somehow and we decided to warp to random belts until the perpetrators were discovered.  After 3 minutes of warping we had found them.

Although the results were not fantastic.

One destroyer belonging to Max Mahler was quickly dispatched at a range of 33km, much further then our guns could shoot. We quickly considered the options and came to the consensus of retreat. So as I aligned and fired up the engines and warped I had a mere 14% armor left. No shields.

So that marked the end of that. Perhaps we should have taken notice of the battleships jumping in and possibly used something like that, something a little er.....tougher.
