The New Blog

Hey there!

I've recently gotten into EVE Online. Quite a lot. Well I'd be lying if I said this is my first run in with this amazing game. Back in December 2012 I played, however only on a trial account. Looking even further back I played for 3 measly days in 2008, never got into as I had to run the game on minimum only to get sub-par FPS.

Well for those of you wondering EVE Online is a MMORPG set in our universe roughly 2000 years in the future. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

"EVE Online (stylised EVE Online) is a video game by CCP games. It is a player-driven, persistent-world MMORPG set in a science fiction space setting. Characters pilot customizable ships through a galaxy of over 7,500 star systems. Most star systems are connected to one or more other star systems by means of stargates. The star systems can contain moons, planets, stations, wormholes, asteroid belts and complexes."
So as you can see EVE is a very in-depth game. You can do anything in the game, it's what you call a "sandbox-driven" MMORPG. This naturally makes it a very player-driven game. I've found the community to be very kind and welcoming to newer players. I'm in a Mining corporation on one of my characters. For example we offer services for new players, advice and ultimately a goal to strive for. I found EVE isn't a game to play like a single player game. This will ultimately result in a less engaging experience and can often affect you in-game.

But what makes EVE Online so great? I could be the great graphics. It could be the huge array of ships to pilot. It could be the prospect of making huge amount of virtual currency trading.

However the thing I find and I'm sure many others agree is that the players make EVE great. In no other game will you find 4000+ players fighting for control over a system. Nor will you find massive corporations controlling resources and controlling the areas. The events are also fantastic. Take yesterday for example. A large corporation called Goonswarm decided to interdict the ice belts in a region of space by killing the miners. Even though the in-game police will kill them if they attack players in "high security" space, they choose to suicide attack the miners. This cuts off the supply and raises the price of the ice. This is just one such move, EVE has held countless others and many more to come.

So what is the blog going to be about you ask? Well for starters I'm going to be working with some very experienced EVE players and writing guides here. I'm also keen to share my experience's  as an EVE player and want to hear more from other players. To play the game is one thing, to share and talk about it is another.

I'll start with a guide on making some ISK (the in-game currency" first. I shall throw in stories of me and others at any time they show up. With any luck this blog will be a good resource for new and old EVE players alike, as you can never truly know everything there is to know about EVE.
